Air Exchanger Services - HRVs & ERVs

Stramowski Heating Inc. provides Air Exchanger installation, maintenance, and repair. The two types of exchangers, Energy Recovery Ventilators (ERVs) and Heat Recovery Ventilators (HRVs), provide a balance between indoor air quality (fresh, humidity-controlled air) and energy efficiency (low utility costs).

Our residential services company is a local trusted Milwaukee service area HVAC professional for thousands of homes we've served.

Improve Air Quality - Minimize Energy Loss

An Air Exchanger ensures a continuous exchange of stale indoor air with fresh outdoor air while controlling humidity and reducing pollutants and allergens.

  • If your home is too moist in summer and too dry in winter, the indoor air is likely not exchanging properly with outdoor air.
  • If you live in a tightly-sealed modern home (such as an R2000 home and/or one built in or after 1997), an air exchanger is essential to prevent the accumulation of dust, pollutants, and moisture.

Air exchangers pull in stale indoor air in one port and push it outdoors through a second port, while it pulls outdoor air through a third port and sends it through the home's HVAC duct system as fresh, heated / cooled air with the proper humidity level.

Symptoms of a Poorly Ventilated House

Too Dry:

  • Static Electricity: Dry air leads to static build-up
  • Dry Skin & Lips: Skin can become flaky, itchy, or cracked. Chapped lips are another common symptom.
  • Sinus Irritation: Dry air can irritate nasal passages, leading to congestion and nosebleeds
  • Increased Allergies: Dust and allergens remain suspended in dry air, further irritating allergy symptoms
  • Wood Damage: Dryness can cause wood furniture, floors, and musical instruments to shrink, crack, or warp

Too Humid:

  • Water Droplets on Windows / Foggy Windows: Usually not a problem with the windows themselves, but is a whole-home moisture issue
  • Wet or Damp Window Frames or Walls: Or even water droplets on frames or walls
  • Mold or Mildew: Usually in damper areas, such fungus can be destructive
  • Musty or Damp Smell: Musty odors also invade your clothes
  • Peeling Wallpaper or Paint: Excessive moisture can damage your home's finishes

  • Hot and Cold Spots: Indicates lack of proper airflow
  • Room With Large Windows is Too Hot or Too Cold

Energy Recovery Ventilator (ERV)

  • Maintains a balanced humidity level
  • Moves stale indoor air outside while moving outdoor air inside, while transferring heat indoors in the winter and outdoors in the summer
  • Improves air quality by trapping pollutants and allergens
  • Ideal for both cold and hot climates, where humidity is an issue
  • Saves energy by transferring heat through the air

Heat Recovery Ventilator (HRV)

  • Focuses on heat exchange: transfers heat from the outgoing stale indoor air to the incoming fresh air
  • Improves air quality by trapping pollutants & allergens
  • Ideal for cold climates to recover heat during winter
  • Saves energy by transferring heat through the air
